AgTech is set to be a growing sector over the next several decades as founders and investors look to build the next generation of companies and technology that will feed our planet. With the “digitization” of farming and agriculture sure to be a major part of this trend the complexity and volume of hardware and software data is sure to see a exponential growth. Growers, service providers, hardware manufacturers and facility/farm operators are going to be in need to tools to combine this data to help analyze and operate their farms, enter Leaf Agriculture.
Leaf Agricultures’ API helps provide data infrastructure for disparate AgTech systems and then allows service providers and operators to pull in that data from a single set of APIs that their systems can call to pull in machine, field and imagery data to be combined to help run their farm. As indoor, connected and tech-enabled farming continues to grow, the back-office task of managing the data that all the systems produce would become a bottle neck from most of these farm and growing facility operators.
Leaf Agricultures platform could also become for a tremendous resource for emerging AgTech startups that are looking to build products and services that need to integrate with existing hardware and software to help provide new generations of tools. Their platform could save time and money for these emerging companies as they bring their product/service to market.
Given the need for future innovation in farming/growing to meet our global food demands I am extremely bullish on Leaf Agriculture’s future. Having recently raised a $2M seed round from Cultivian Sandbox Ventures, SP Ventures and Radical Growth, the Leaf Agriculture team is poised to continue to expand the platforms capabilities and supported data sources. The impact of their work will be exciting to follow.
